eBay to Force PayPal Worldwide?

May 10, 2008

A question that has been going around the eBay community recently is whether or not eBay will force buyers to pay through its own payment gateway, PayPal. PayPal has already been made mandatory in Australia, which has been seen by many as a testing ground for worldwide implementation.

If eBay forces users to only pay through PayPal this may be seen as anti-competitive and the competition commission may have to step in. It may also allow other emerging auction sites to move into this lucrative space.

eBay rival (Wigix) launches

May 1, 2008

Wigix, the “Want It, Got It Exchange” was launched yesterday amidst online media frenzy. This seems the perfect opportunity to launch a rival to eBay, whilst sellers are disgruntled. Wigix may be tempting to sellers with its lower fees, feedback system and nicer interface however I doubt many sellers will move over until the number of buyers increases- it will be interesting to see how Wigix does over the next few months.
