Apple IIc computer sold on eBay

August 8, 2008

A vintage Apple IIc has sold for $2,553 (approx £1,232), the 20 year-old computer was unused, unopened and still in its original packaging. The buyer Dan Budiac used to have an Apple IIc and was delighted to be reunited with the machine. The unboxing was documented on Flickr and Budiac’s album had more than 2.5 million views. Many collectors were appalled at Budiac’s decision to open the pristine machine, however he said he had bought it to play Oregon Trial, a game he remembers from his childhood.

The Apple IIc was released by Apple in 1984 and included a 1.023-MHz processor, 128KB of RAM and a 9” monochrome monitor.

Collecting pieces of computer history is becoming more and more popular on eBay, although many of us will not have an unopened machine lying around at home it may be worth digging around your garage/attic and seeing if there is any computing memorabilia, you never know it may be worth something to someone.

Millionaire sells life on eBay

August 7, 2008

David Piper shot to fame when he advertised for a Lady of the Manor in the International Herald Tribune. Now David is joining the latest trend and has put his life for sale on eBay.

The 58 year-old twice-divorced father of four has put all of his assets for sale on eBay. The auction includes David’s title (Lord of the Manor of Warleigh), two Bentleys, one hotel, one cafe and a contemprorary art collection consisting of 140 items.

The auction is said to be worth around £6m, however last night it was only just over £120,000. David says he wanted to move from his house in Plymouth to move closer to London where his children are living. David has also been diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer and is receiving treatment at the University College Hospital in London.

The millionaire also owes just over £2.3m in loans which he took out to renovate the two hotels he operates. The auction ends on Monday and if an acceptable amount isn’t reached then David has said he will sell his assets through more conventional mediums.

As an added bonus David has also agreed to introduce the winner to some of the 2,000 women who applied to be his Lady of the Manor.

eBay scammer gets let off

August 6, 2008

A man from Exeter accused of operating an eBay scam selling copied DVDs and fake perfumes, sometimes Paul Kelly, 41, didn’t even send the items. Mr Kelly set up two eBay accounts registered to his own address (he obviously isn’t as clever as scammers in the past). He used these accounts to sell goods that either he didn’t own or were fake.

The judge ruled that because Mr Kelly was unable to do work (as he is disabled) it would be unfair to fine him or send him to prison and just fined him the £806 costs.

Abuse for sale on eBay

August 6, 2008

In a similarly themed auction to Mondays weird auction, where a guy put a punch in the face for sale on eBay, a seller is offering the ‘unique’ opportunity to be ‘taken down a few pegs’. The seller will send the winner an email insulting him/her and telling them what he really thinks of them. It has been recommended that the winner sends a picture. I assume this is so the sellers job is easier, as he wouldn’t have any idea about the winners lifestyle or features.

The winner can use bare knuckles or a boxing glove and the seller will sign a waiver to absolve the winner of any damage caused by the punch. Currently the seller has no bids and has set a starting price of $1m however he is willing to consider lower bids- which implies that this is a joke auction.
