Real Time PCR
October 8, 2008
So I was trawling eBay the other day looking for weird and wonderful things for my sister as a present as she is a Microbiologist and I have quite a small area of expert-ease to concentrate on, two of the subjects she wants product in are DNA and Real time PCR, now I love shopping on eBay but if you search for DNA it comes up with everything that I don’t understand but if your search for Real Time PCR it comes up with only 1 product the Corbett Roto-Gene 3000 PCR Real-Time DNA Thermal Cycler.
The product in question is currently selling at £7192 its going to be an expensive Christmas this year.
For the less knowledgeable out there like me here is the wikipedia explanation.
“In molecular biology, real-time polymerase chain reaction, also called quantitative real time polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) or kinetic polymerase chain reaction, is a laboratory technique based on the polymerase chain reaction, which is used to amplify and simultaneously quantify a targeted DNA molecule. It enables both detection and quantification (as absolute number of copies or relative amount when normalized to DNA input or additional normalizing genes) of a specific sequence in a DNA sample.”
If anybody else out there has any other good ideas that I can buy from eBay related to Real Time PCR give me a heads up.
Clothes swapping
October 8, 2008
swapping clothes has become a national fad and last night there was actually a whole television program dedicated to the new trend.
Twiggy presented the whole show and allowed all participants to swap what ever clothes they owned on there backs for someone Else’s personal belongings.
There has been talk that one day eBay will offer this service and get its cut from the delivery charge, I’m guessing that some entrepreneur will cotton on to this soon and set up a website to cash in on this, there are opportunities out there with recycling textile mills who and i quote the famous fashion queen Rebecca Drake,
“It is estimated that more than 1 million tonnes of textiles are thrown away every year, with most of this coming from household sources. Textiles make up about 3% by weight of a household bin. At least 50% of the textiles we throw away are recyclable, however, the proportion of textile wastes reused or recycled annually in the UK is only around 25%. “
If you fancy an investment lets give it a go and give me shout.

eBay bans Lasers
October 6, 2008
You might be aware but if your not both eBay & Amazon will now ban any sales of high powered individual green laser sicks or pens, which came from a news reader on the BBC 5 live show with Donald Macintyre.
Everybody is aware that lasers have been in the news for year with reports that they have been used to blind people and even worse put of pilots in commercial airlines and police helicopters. Now any Lasers which are under 1mW will be definitely be considered safe and will be allowed to be sold for use especially when it comes to presentation, the problem is some lasers on eBay are 250 times as powerful and will pop a balloon and are sold with them to show how easy it is.
The Donal MacIntyre radio show was aired on the 5th and can be downloaded online.
Here is the you tube proof.
eBay scammer owned
October 5, 2008
This is classic as a stupid girl decides to advertise two mobile phones for sale on eBay. Well a mother and daughter decide that they are going to buy them they bid and win, but to there surprise when they opened the parcel they received two photos of the phones. Watch this.
Judge Judy is a legend and if you know how to find her and you know who to call maybe you could hire her and make her own another thief for you.
If I ever get robbed on eBay I’m going to look her up and let her humiliate the idiot who thinks they can get away with robbing people on eBay.
£5000 that should teach her not to do it again but I doubt it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
October free auction for cars
October 4, 2008
Get selling on eBay as you can for the whole month of October, auction your car on eBay Ireland for free with no insertion fees.
The exclusive special offer will be usable in sections: Cars subcategory of Cars, Parts and Vehicles, and its the auction listings that only count.
Now I know the normal insertion fee is only €9, but its still a saving and all the other normal fee still count.
BINs and classified adverts will not be included even though I’m not sure as its not obvious that auction-with-BIN is also included, or even if you will be charged for listings for the BIN upgrade.

MI6 Spy camera eBay
October 3, 2008
It was announced in the Sun newspaper that a camera holding MI6 intelligence pictures was sold by accident on eBay. It was a man from Hemel Hempstead who bid on the camera and supposidley got a bargain with the Nikon Coolpix which closed for just £17, but when the camera arrived the man was shocked to fin that it contained photos of rocket launchers and missiles which were believed on there way to Al Qaeda from Iran, and even worse it contained names, pictures, fingerprints & even academic records of all the pictured suspects and terrorists.
The unlucky bloke who ought the camera has been told that he is forbidden to talk to the world, but the Sun managed to get hold of mate of his who said that when the man downloaded his holiday pics he saw rocket launchers and missiles.
Obviously he hadn’t been holidaying in Iraq so he asked mates for help and they said go to the police.
Back in Feb 08, the same happened but that time it was a laptop with home office stuff on but again it was sold on eBay the terrorist highway.
Paypal Protection
October 2, 2008
eBay is actually updating its Buyer Protection page and it know shows that the advice for all your items
“arrives significantly as described, then you can receive the full value of your purchase (including postage) back when you pay with PayPalâ€.
You see I have always though that if a buyer recives the product they paid for and are really happy and content with it, that as a seller we should not have the right to keep the cash. could you imagine if eBay changed the page to say
“arrives significantly NOT as describedâ€
before the hoards of buyers want cash returned.
Funny eBay video
October 1, 2008
I was bored and looking through some eBay stuff and I came across this funny video.
It really does optimise a lot of things that are sold on eBay and emphasizes all the crap we buy and sell that other want.
It made me laugh to think that I have sold lots of the stuff i the song and how people now have taken the time to write and expertly sing to a back street boys tune.
Im even tempted to do one myself just for a bit of fun but I simply dont have the time. Does anyone else have any funny eBay related videos and Ill post them for the world to see.
Ill try when i get time and post some of the other funny stuff I found and let me know hat you think.
